If you needed an excuse to stuff yourself with plantains and jerk chicken, you’re in luck: The 12th annual Caribbean Cuisine Week returns to help raise funds to bring some 700 economically disadvantaged student athletes from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Granada, St. Vincent and the Bahamas to the Penn Relays.
It’s simple. Restaurant goers choose to eat out at participating establishments from April 13 through April 15, and the proceeds go toward ground transport, food, emergency, medical and hospital services for the students.
Fun fact: Jamaican Olympian Usain Bolt benefited from this fundraiser when he was in high school.
The list of venues, some of which already serve Caribbean and Latin cuisine, and some of which will offer inspired specials, includes Sabrina’s Café (all five locations), Zavino University City, 48th Street Grille, Reef Restaurant and Lounge and Mixto.
