Don’t Miss The First-Ever Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week, June 10-17

Get ready to feast on flavors from around the world right here in Philadelphia from June 10 to 17 during the city’s first-ever Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week.

Black Restaurant Week started in Houston in 2016 to foster awareness and education about the black culinary industry. The inaugural Philadelphia foodie fest features discounted menus at 10 black-owned restaurants as well as three food-focused events, including a bartending competition at Haute and a pop-up dinner at the African American Musuem in Philadelphia.

BLACK RESTAURANT WEEK FAST FACTS

  • The first-ever Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week takes place from June 10 to 17.
  • Ten black-owned eateries offer deals on breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour and/or dinner.
  • Three food-focused events, including a bartending competition and a pop-up dinner, also go down this week.

Participating restaurants offer a variety of global cuisines, including Caribbean, African, Asian and Cajun foods. Each restaurant has crafted a special Black Restaurant Week menu featuring discounted breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour and/or dinner menus.

Featured restaurants include Rose Petals Cafe & Lounge, Haute Restaurant & Lounge, Azzaam’s Soul & Grill, Just To Serve You, Too, Star Fusion, Dahlak, Booker’s Restaurant & Bar, Bistro 870 Restaurant, 48th Street Grille and Tastie’s Restaurant.

Featured Events

In addition to the ongoing daily restaurant specials, the people behind Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week have scheduled three special food events.

The Aroma Culinary Panel Discussion kicks things off on Monday, June 11. It features a panel of restaurant owners, chefs and other culinary professionals sharing what it takes to own a successful restaurant.

The first-ever Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week features discounted menus at 10 black-owned restaurants as well as a series of food-focused events.

On Tuesday, June 12, join chef Kurt Evans for an exclusive, four-course pop-up dinner and wine pairing at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. Evans currently works as a chef at South Jazz Restaurant and is known for his End Mass Incarceration dinner series.

Thursday, June 14 brings the Power of the Palate: Bartending Competition to Haute, a black-owned lounge in Center City and Black Restaurant Week participant. This Hennessy-sponsored competition features live music, a People’s Choice tasting and vote and special guest host Karen Vaughn of WRNB-FM.

This year, the event-organizers behind Black Restaurant Week have partnered with F.A.R.M.S., or Family Agriculture Resource Management Services, to support their efforts to provide small, aging farmers with legal services.
